Cavanagh Criticises UK Govt.

9 08 2007

Jane Cavanagh, CEO of Eidos, is the latest person to hit out at the UK government for not offering the games industry the same tax breaks as other media industries. Fairly notable, given that the creation of a 350 person Ubisoft facility in Montreal was instrumental in pushing the UK down to 4th largest developer of videogames worldwide. Reports MCV:

“Over the years, people have tried lobby for this sort of funding in the UK – in line with the perks given to UK film studios – and the result has been pretty much nil.

“It seems that this industry is not being taken seriously: not only in terms of retaining talent, but for foreign companies to come in and create a pool of talent.”
